Join us on Wednesday, October 19, on Zoom at 7:30pm. In honor of the Earth Care Project, Mary Niles Maack will lead a discussion of The Edge of the Sea by Rachel Carson (1907-1964). Trained as a marine biologist, Rachel Carson’s writings on the ocean convey a sense of wonder and awe in The Edge of the Sea, Carson combines lyrical prose with a scientifically accurate exploration of the Atlantic seashore which she sees as “a world that keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life.” Described as a hymn to ecological complexity, this book explores rocky shores, sandy beaches and the coral coast of the Florida Keys.
